Public Light Buses |
There are two types of public light
buses : red and green minibuses. The green minibuses are operated on fixed
routeings and fares. The operation of red minibuses is more flexible in
that there is no control on the routeings and fares.
All public
light buses are air-conditioned and carry 16 passengers. Large indicators
showing destination and fare are displayed at the front of the vehicle.
Because of steps on public light buses, wheelchair users and persons with
severe walking difficulties would find this mode unsuitable for commuting.
Those persons with |
|
visual and hearing impairment as well as those
with moderate walking difficulties may conveniently use the services.
As from 1998, operators of new green minibus routes have been
required to install call bells inside compartment so that passengers can
indicate to the drivers that they wish to alight at the next stop. |
Certificate for Picking Up or Setting Down
of Passengers with Disabilities in Restricted Zones It is an
offence in law for a driver to pick up or set down passengers in
restricted zones. However, for the convenience of people with
disabilities, the police have agreed to exercise discretion to allow
drivers of taxi, private car, private light bus and private bus to pick up
or set down passengers with disabilities in restricted zones (except
expressways and 24 hours restricted zones), provided that no hazard or
major disruption is caused to other road users. As evidence of the
journey, passengers with disabilities can issue a completed "Certificate
for Picking Up or Setting Down of Passengers with Disabilities in
Restricted Zones?to the driver, with information on the journey (date,
time and pick up/set down place) and vehicle registration number.
Passenger with visual impairment can fill in the certificate in Braille.
In the event that the driver is interrogated by a police officer, he can
show the certificate to the latter for consideration.
People with
specified types of disabilities can apply for the certificate from 66
contact organisations under the coordination of the Hong Kong Council of
Social Service (HKCSS). Service users and members of rehabilitation
organizations can apply to their respective organizations or agencies
directly while others can contact Hong Kong PHAB Association,
